Jane is an enthusiastic, highly experienced and dedicated Biology tutor who has been supporting learners to reach their potential for over 30 years.


Jane is passionate about working with learners who have additional support needs or special educational needs and disability.


As Scotland's only SOI Trained and licensed Cognitive Learning Specialist, she is able to assess and support people of all ages.

Jane is understanding, positive and encouraging in her approach and spends much of her time instilling self-belief, enthusiasm and confidence in those youngsters with whom she works. 


Jane offers a professional service , thoroughly enjoys working with her pupils and is able to tailor sessions to meet individual needs. She has been awarded Biology Tutor of the Year, 21/22 & 22/23.


She is highly experienced in working with learners who have additional support needs (ASN) or special educational needs and disability (SEND); particularly with autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD/ ADD, PDA and anxiety disorders. Jane treats all learners with patience, respect and care, allowing each to reach their potential and thus gain in confidence.


Jane can thoroughly assess cognitive abilities based on 90 specific skills, and design bespoke programmes for individuals to improve their projects in education and future life! 

Due to extensive disruption to education recently, considerable anxiety has built up amongst families and pupils. Jane aims to be a calming influence and support each pupil develop their knowledge and enthusiasm for the natural world.

Since Covid times, Jane has offeried online sessions over Zoom. These sessions can be individual or groups of three to six pupils learning the same course. 
 
Since September, 2020, Jane has offered tutorials covering problem solving, study skills, exam techniques, essay writing and much more!  Video recordings of all tutorials and webinars are available to be purchased and watched at each pupil's own pace
This support has been extremely well received as pupils are needing assistance with experimental style questions, problem solving, exam techniques and more. For information or to purchase recordings, please go to the dedicated tutorials and webinars page, or contact Jane.

With Jane's extensive experience, she is able to recommend tutors in other subjects to her pupils who need further support.

In addition to Biology tuition, Jane offers cognitive assessment and training to individuals through her S.O.I. service, as a Cognitive Learning Specialist.

She also provides family support and mentoring through her own Gifted Family  Mentoring.


Jane holds certified qualifications in Autism, PDA, Dyslexia, ADHD and Special Educational Needs and Disability, and is currently working towards an Honours Degree in Child Development, Child Psychology, Life Sciences and Medical Science.


Jane is now the only Certified Cognitive Learning Specialist in Scotland and as such can offer S.O.I. full cognitive assessments to all children/young people, followed by bespoke, individualised programs to improve cognitive weaknesses, allowing pupils to thrive and reach their full potential in education and beyond. Jane is excited and passionate about working with more young people throughout the UK to improve their prospects.


Jane also assists families with children/young people with autism and other neurodivergence. Being a mum to three neurodivergent youngsters, she has twenty two years of lived experience.

Jane also volunteered as a tutor for the Volunteer Tutor Organisation (VTO).


Jane began volunteering with VTO in 2020, and  thoroughly enjoyed her role as a one-to-one tutor until 2022. VTO offers individual/group, educational support and guidance to children who are experiencing periods of adversity.

Jane has been a Leader in Girlguiding Scotland for 32 years and is PVG checked

Jane loves the out of doors, sport (especially skiing), being with her family, walking her dogs, wildlife and science. She is an open minded, patient and optimistic person who is always keen to instil her appreciation and enthusiasm of the living world in others. She truly believes that every young person is gifted and loves working with them to help them reach their potential, in more than just Biology.
